Top things to do in Germany

What type of traveler are you? A nature lover, a history, art and culture buff, or maybe you are a foodie, a party person or do you enjoy a bit of everything?

I, personally, like to enjoy a bit of everything! This way, I get to see and experience the most of what a country has to offer, and Germany is no exception when it comes to variety.

The Nature Lover

Take in the stunning scenery of the enchanted Black Forest. Discover the Alps, the most extensive and highest mountain range in Europe, offering fantastic, yet very different experiences all year round. Spend a day lazing around a picturesque lake or river, and why not, just to say you dipped your toes in both, visit the coastlines of the North or Baltic Seas.

History, Art and Culture Buffs

While you can brush up on the country’s history and view incredible works of art in the plethora of museums in any German city, there is nothing quite like visiting Berlin. Visit Museum Island, the memorial of the Berlin wall, pay tribute at the Holocaust Memorial and if time allows, take a sombre journey to Sachsenhausen, a former concentration camp.

Foodies

You can’t experience Germany without entertaining your taste buds with a bratwurst, schnitzel or pork knuckle. For other great local specialties, visit Berlin for a currywurst, Cafe Schäfer for the finest piece of Black Forest Cake or get the world’s best pretzel in the tiny Bavarian town of Dachsbach.

Party People

Does donning a traditional Dirndl/Lederhosen, a beer in one hand and pretzel in the other sound like your scene? Well, from mid-September to the first weekend in October, you can do all of this at Oktoberfest. Can’t make those dates? Munich’s Hofbräuhaus has you covered, with traditional Bavarian music and cuisine, famous beers and dancing all year round. If you are more into clubbing, don’t miss Berlin’s nightlife, with its egalitarian tradition, you can party the night away looking and wearing whatever you want.

No matter what you are interested in, Germany has something for everyone.
