My Top Travel Tips
I have picked up a few tips while travelling that I think should be passed on to all travellers, here is my list so far. I am sure this will be a work in progress, with more tips being added.
Always pack a spare pair of clothes and anything you would need for a full day in your carry on luggage. For example, pack your coat if you are going to a cold climate, pack your swimmers for tropical destinations. That way if your luggage goes wandering the world, at least you can still enjoy yourself until it catches up with you and not have to hit the shops the moment you land.
If you like to use the safes in hotel rooms, put the shoes you are going to wear the day you leave in the safe with your valuables. That way you are sure to remember them, because you're not going to leave without your shoes, right?
Learn a few phrases in the language of the country you are going to visit. Even if you can't pronounce it perfectly, locals will appreciate the effort. It is not fair to assume everyone will speak English and always remember, no matter how loud you speak, it will not help them to understand you. Alternatively perfect your miming skills.
Take a business card from your hotel, this is the best way to communicate with a taxi driver where you want to go.
Read up about local customs before you leave, some countries have different laws and religious beliefs that prevent you from doing, saying or wearing certain things.
Go and explore a supermarket in a foreign country (especially one where you don't speak the language), it can be very amusing to try and figure out what things are and also to try out new things!
Always have your camera handy. You never know when that perfect photo opportunity will arise, and you can treasure these moments forever!
